The problem

A 10 × 9.8 mm sheet-metal part, only 0.4 mm thick, had to be picked reliably and lock-assembled onto a plastic hub. The part is too small and thin for standard trays or suction cups.

What I designed
01

Injector-type input tray

A precision tray that pushes the stack of sheet-metal parts upward, so the cobot always picks from the same top position.

02

Perforated vacuum gripper

Instead of suction cups, a negative cavity of the part with a perforated face holds the delicate geometry under vacuum.

03

Turntable stations and jigs

Stations for the vibratory hub feeder, the stamping press that lock-assembles both parts, and an output station that clears the jig for the next cycle.

04

Cobot pick-and-place

Fairino FR5 pick-and-place integrated with proximity and limit sensors, pneumatic mechanisms and a Festo electric linear actuator.

Outcome

A multi-station turntable SPM producing 5 to 7 parts per minute and cutting manual intervention by 90%.
