The problem

Traditional espresso involves handling a portafilter, tamping, and pouring milk steadily enough for latte art, all of it manual and skill-dependent.

What I designed
01

Portafilter gripper

A custom end effector that holds the portafilter securely through the entire brewing cycle.

02

Sensor-based tamping tool

An automatic tamper that compresses the ground coffee consistently, triggered by sensors.

03

Tilting cup holder

A holder that tilts the cup up to 30° to compensate for robot motion while pouring milk, making latte art repeatable.

04

Machine frame

A compact frame that mounts every machine in the station within a small footprint.

Outcome

A compact automated coffee station that reduces manual work by 80% without compromising espresso quality.
